How do we introduce AI into the classroom?

The world of education is flooded with AI products; promises to reduce teacher’s workload, streamline planning and differentiation, virtual tutors and mentors and even AI tools pupils can use in the classroom.

But who is teaching children what AI is? What it isn’t? What it does? Who’s in control of it? And most importantly: How should we use it?

I have explored a deeper look into our responsibility as adults, parents and educators to guide children through AI technology and develop, possibly redefine, our approach.

I have created a free resource for teaching about AI in primary schools, which can easily be adapted to KS3 secondary as well – you can read more about it and download it here: Computer Systems and Networks: Artificial Intelligence – Year 5/6 – Free Lessons from Run Don’t Walk Primary Computing.

So far there have been almost 140 downloads and the response from teachers has been overwhelmingly positive!

Thank you very much for this.

THANK YOU FOR CREATING THIS GREAT RESOURCE!

Thank you for these excellently timed resources.

You are a legend!

Thank you for all your hard work and willingness to share your resources for free. Let’s hope the DFE will notice your hard work and you will be rewarded for that accordingly!

Most of the downloads have come from teachers and leaders who have little to no teaching on AI currently, so I’m hoping this will have a huge impact on getting schools started on this journey!

I’m also very proud to display my letter and certificate from the ‘AI Awareness Day’ team, who shared my resources far and wide. Hopefully more and more teachers will catch hold of this free teaching unit and bring insight and knowledge to children on this complex area of computing before they start delving in to the world of AI.
