So far, 192 teachers have downloaded my free 5 lesson unit on Artificial Intelligence – The aim is not getting pupils to use AI, but teaching them about it, how to approach it safely, ethically, and to enhance thinking, not replace it!
Of all of the teachers who have downloaded it so far, 32% did not have anything in place to teach children about AI before they picked up this unit. A further 30% said their teaching on AI was only a 2 on a scale of 1 – 5.
Those who said they did manage to deliver something about AI in the classroom, responded with a variety of things they had tried, although I’m aware that some of the solutions mentioned are either AI tools themselves, or schemes which do not support any AI teaching yet (e.g. Teach Computing). This highlights the inconsistent approach where there has been little to no guidance yet on how we should approach this massive topic in the classroom…
Please continue to spread the word; this is so important for children to understand as they start experimenting with AI outside of the classroom. Also, don’t forget there are CPD sessions available to help you deliver this in the classroom.
